There was a quiet rumbling emanating from Leinster House (pictured) this morning as speculation grew amongst political anoraks and the media that announcements where to be made on the major political appointee's of the transitionary cabinet responsible for the nations' governance until such time as elections are held. The hype was confirmed that a major announcement was to be made as The Taoiseach’s cavalcade swept into the grounds of this political landmark.
After a brief period of time (presumably a working lunch), Acting Taoiseach @SeamusHeaney took to the podium, erected at the steps of the building and made the following announcement:
Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that the Cabinet of the Acting Government shall be as follows:
Interior Minister: Martynas Wright
Exterior Minister: Gronville Chard
Until the new Constitution is adopted, the Acting President shall also be permitted to attend and contribute to Cabinet meetings. My primary focus over the next few days will be continuing to draft the Constitution, as well as issuing a statement which will outline a schedule for our transition to elected government in June.
This announcement comes off the back of a slew of 'Acting' appointees made from the President's desk at Áras an Uachtaráin as follows:
- Albert Arthur Wellesley | Acting Chief Justice
- Martynas Wright | Acting World Assembly Delegate
- Anish Reddy | Acting Senator
- Gronville Chard | Acting Senator
- Louis Mountbatten | Acting Senator
- Andrew E. Wright-Jameson | Acting Speaker of the Dáil Éireann
It is not yet clear when the nations first elections will be held, but no doubt those listed above will seek to retain the offices in which they have been temporarily appointed.
